Gala New Years Eve Dinner Dance Report
This was an evening to remember and brought the New Year in with style. There was excellent food, great entertainment and good company. Very special thanks must be given to Peter Brookes and his team of helpers for all their organisation for the evening. The Bar and Catering staff surpassed themselves on the night, bearing in mind that several staff were ill and unable to be there. We hope they are all fit and well again soon.

The Gospel Choir - back by popular demand.
I have persuaded the fabulous 30 piece Gospel Choir who performed and wowed us last Sunday to come back and do it again
on Sunday 18th December at 2.30pm.
So put it in your diary and come along for lunch or just a drink.
Bring some friends.
They are fantastic and well worth coming along to see for an hour.

Winter Competitions for Senior Men Begin - Monday 31st October
The first Competition order of play sheet is now up on the Seniors Noticeboard for members information. This is the first of six competitions that have been arranged from October to March. The format will vary from month to month. The dates for future competitions in the Winter Series are already published on the Seniors Noticeboard, or they can be viewed or downloaded from the website by going to the Home Page & looking at the Senior Mens Club Competition Overview. Seniors are reminded that they need an active handicap to play in competitive matches for prizes and points. However, it is possible to play in these matches with an inactive handicap provided no prizes or points are accepted.

Well Done Jevann Parmar - English Boys Champion of Champions 2011
On Saturday 17th September Jevann Parmar tied first with three other players at the ENGLISH BOYS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS event held at Woodhall Spa.
It is traditional in EGU tournaments that in the event of a tie the title is shared.
This is an excellent achievement for Jevann and will provide a good springboard for further national recognition.
Jevann has been a Junior member of the Club since 2004. This season he won the L&RGU County Junior Championship to which he has now added the English Champion of Champions Crown. He has represented our Club and County during his career to date and has been involved in the EGU Junior Regional Training Squad for the past two years.

Mixed Seniors Men v Seniors Ladies Texas Scramble 6/05/11
There were six mixed teams playing. No married couples played together, although six married couples took part. The winning medal score after handicap adjustment was 58.9. Left to right in the photo are: Pat Binnie, Ian Hedley, Jean Cullip, and Max Jelley
Only the winners received a prize. Second place (no prize, but an honourable mention, 61.7: P. Laurenti, P. Wootton, C. Wilks, I. Burns). We all had a splendid day on the course, and the lunch which followed was acclaimed as excellent by all of us. Altogether a very enjoyable occasion
New Seniors Competitions
During the winter months two new developments have extended the opportunities and rewards available to Seniors at The Leicestershire.
The Lewis Trophy
This new trophy has been presented to the Club by Michael Lewis, Club Captain 1992, and distinguished Senior member over many years. It will be presented annually to the member with the best overall performance in all Seniors events, including Qualifying Stablefords, the Ted Stanger foursomes knockout and the new Winter Series ( see below).
In devising a scoring system that combines results achieved in a wide variety of events, Michael’s intention was to reward consistently good performance. Points are awarded down to sixth place in each event, allowing players who consistently finish strongly, without necessarily achieving a podium place, to accumulate points throughout the season.
The current leader board for this competition is displayed on the Senior’s noticeboard and the club website, where a detailed explanation of the points system can also be found.
Winter Series
To add excitement to the winter golf scene, the Seniors have played a series of team events throughout the winter months. The series included both four-man and two-man team events, including a ‘Yellow Ball’ competition, a two-man scramble and an Am-Am competition. In addition to prizes for each event, players accumulated points throughout the series, leading to the award of prizes for the best overall personal performances. Each player’s Winter Series record is also incorporated in the new Lewis Trophy points system.
Despite dreadful weather conditions over a couple of months, enforcing a number of postponements, all planned events were eventually completed. Sincere thanks are due to Aj and Tim in the Office, who helped arrange the original events timetable, and then very generously helped with re-scheduling postponed events.

Xmas Lunch, Carols & Golf on Sunday 5th a great success.
The christmas lunch was well supported with over 100 people attending. A few played golf, but the xmas comp. was cancelled due to the weather, this was a pity because it turned out to be a really nice day.
We had a lovely lunch followed by Carols led by the Choir of St Wilifreds Church of Kibworth.
We also did a raffle which raised £260, which we are going to donate to Rainbows.
The attached photos show that those who chose to play golf really enjoyed it out there, perhaps fortified by the refreshments they carried with them!
They are Paul Clifton and Gay Mulvey, and Robin and Mary Bullock.
Merry Xmas to all at The Leicestershire Golf Club.

LADIES AGM - Postponed until 14th December
Owing to the recent inclement weather and the forecast for the remainder of Tuesday 30th November the Ladies AGM has been postponed and will now take place on Tuesday 14th December.
The pre - AGM lunch has also been postponed.
A Successful Quiz Night
Nine teams of six entered the quiz, with questions set by Quiz Master Barry Davies. In all, 18 rounds of 10 questions were attempted by the teams, ranging from sport to politics and from picture rounds to music. The eventual winners were "Norfolk and Chance" captained by Mark Scarratt. Many thanks to Barry, who must have spent a lot of time preparing for the quiz.
If you missed the quiz why not come along on Sunday 5th December for a 9 holes mixed golf competition? So far 28 couples have signed up for it. The golf will be followed by a lunch in the clubhouse and a carol concert after lunch. Anbody is welcome to come to the Xmas lunch and carol concert, but places are limited and booking up very quickly.

The second day was an Am Am won by Carol Smith , Liz Mitchell , Peter Howkins and Adrian Keene.
The final day was a win for the team of Liz Mitchell, David Mitchell, Simon Pollard and Hilary Pollard,
with Hilary Pollard and Clive Smith wining the individual prizes.

Kay Moulden 2nd in Ladies Open at Woburn
Kay Moulden came 2nd (out of 102 entries) with 35points at a Ladies open on Tuesday 10th August 2010 at Woburn.Six Ladies from The Leicestershire entered that day, playing on the Dukes Course. What made Kays 35 points even more special was that the weather was dreadful and it poured with rain all day.Unfortunately Ian Poulter was unavailable to present the prizes and gave his apologies !
The Barbara Fulton Trophy
The annual match between The Ladies & Gentlemen took place on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
Pictured right - on the 1st Tee are Jane Jelley (Ladies Captain) & Simon Pollard (Club Captain), with their partners Fay Brook (Lady President ) & David Allcock (Club President)
After the match a splendid Dinner was enjoyed by all those taking part, this was followed by speeches from the Lady Captain & Club Captain.
The Barbara Fulton Rosebowl for the winners of the match (The Gentlemen) was presented by Jane Jelley to Simon Pollard.
Former Captain and Life Member Lars Helgeson at Brocton Hall
Lars Helgeson is President of "The Leicestershire & Rutland Golf Captains Association".
On Tuesday 18th May, Lars chose Brocton Hall for the Presidents away day. Pictured are Lars with all the past Captains of Leicestershire who were in attendance. It was a wonderful day, on a wonderful course with great weather and company.
Brocton Hall Golf Club was founded in 1894 and moved to its present location at Brocton, near Stafford, in 1923. The beautiful 18 hole parkland golf course, on the edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, was designed by Harry Vardon and its layout remains very largely as he planned it. The mature trees and attractive water features combine to provide a searching test of golf.
Chris Sturmey
Kerslake Putter
The annual Club versus Club Captains was held on Saturday 8th May where the Past Captains Side was represented by twenty-two distinguished members (see picture right).
An excellent lunch was enjoyed by both teams with the wine flowing freely and the customary large glasses of Kummell!
Many stories of both past and present Captains were enjoyed among the participating teams. Play eventually began around 2:20 p.m. where there was initial banter but a more serious tone materialised as the competition got under way.
The tees and handicaps had been negotiated over lunch and though questioned by many of the participants the match resulted in an honourable half for both teams.
A great day and we look forward to next year!!
Simon Pollard - Club Captain
