Juniors

Introduction

Here at The Leicestershire Golf Club (TLGC), we are very proud of our junior section which currently includes over 90 members made up of both boys and girls over a variety of age ranges. We believe that TLGC is a great place for any junior golfer to develop, whether joining as a total beginner or an experienced golfer. The junior section continues to grow in size each year and receives great support from the rest of the club. As a result, we are honoured to say that we have many promising young boy and girl golfers who are involved in county and tour level golf. However, we welcome and encourage juniors of all abilities as we have a firm belief that golf should be focussed on enjoyment and friendship. Alongside our successful programmes of development we are particularly proud of the number and variety of junior competitions we offer our juniors each year

Our junior section is a great place to learn, have fun and make lifelong friendships.

Junior Committee and Junior Captain

Run by a dedicated and enthusiastic Junior Committee which includes four Junior Organisers: James Dobson (PGA Level 1), Neil MacDougall, Parin Patel and Marion Keene, and supported by Head Professional Peter Livie and Assistant Professional Peter Faragher. We provide a safe and fun environment for juniors to learn and progress to their full potential, whilst equipping them with golfing and life skills which they will hopefully use and enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Complementing the Junior Committee, we also have the prestigious roles of Junior Captain and Junior Vice Captain. They represent the section and have a vital role in supporting all juniors to reach their golfing goals.

Juniors Wellbeing

We take our juniors’ safety and wellbeing very seriously and have achieved the nationally recognised Golf Mark award and SafeGolf accreditation. All members of the junior committee are DBS checked and attend regular Child Safe Guarding courses.

What do we offer our juniors?

At the TLGC we think it’s important that juniors learn the great game but also have fun and build friendships. As such, there is a range of activities for juniors to get involved in. Every Sunday we offer a free one hour session where juniors receive coaching, participate in challenges and play games with a strong focus on fun. These are well attended all year round. Anyone interested in finding out more about what we do at TLGC can attend two taster sessions to experience what we have to offer. Also, each junior member is entitled to a free monthly 30 minute individual coaching session with either of the club’s professionals. In addition, Peter Faragher offers group coaching every Saturday with sessions to suit different abilities. Peter also runs very popular golf camps during most school holidays at a very competitive price.

Facilities

The Leicestershire Golf Club offers great facilities for all golfers including juniors, not only on the course but off as well. We have multiple junior tees to match all abilities including Blue and Black discs for our younger and less experienced juniors over all eighteen holes. This allows each junior to play from a tee that suits their ability with a chance to make pars and birdies.

There are also great practice and teaching facilities to help juniors to improve their game. We have both a covered and outdoor 11 bay driving range, practice putting green, practice chipping green and a four hole short game practice area.

Competitions

Competition is an important part of golf and whilst not compulsory we encourage juniors to improve and better themselves, and this is best achieved through playing in a safe competitive environment. There are regular competitions for both handicapped and non-handicapped juniors at the club and a number of our juniors play in several regional and national tour competitions. We have two Junior County League teams and encourage all juniors with handicaps to play in them. Once a year we organise a Festival of Golf competition which is one of the largest Junior Open competitions in the county with over one hundred juniors from all over Leicestershire competing.
