If you are 55 years or older you will be warmly welcomed at the varied range of activities organised by the Seniors section.
We have ‘roll-up’ sessions on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 8.15 a.m. We draw for playing partners for friendly, but competitive, games played in three or four balls, followed by refreshments in the club house. This is an excellent way for new members to meet the Seniors crowd.
We hold individual competitions, qualifying for handicap, each month from March to October, including three ‘major’ trophies - The Simpson Bowl, The P E Daniels and The Lockhart Trophies. In the summer months we play a foursomes match play knockout competition for The Ted Stanger Trophy.
Each month from October to March we run our Winter Series of competitions, in a variety of formats, played in pairs or teams of four. Results in the winter and summer competitions count towards The Lewis Trophy, which rewards the most consistently successful Senior golfer of the year.
From April to September we play 24 matches against Seniors’ teams from clubs in and around Leicestershire, including many of the finest courses in the area. This gives members the opportunity to sample golf courses around (and beyond) the county, each outing costing no more than the price of the post-match lunch.
We play mixed golf – a match against the Ladies section for The Silver Putter and a Texas Scramble with the Senior Ladies.
We have an annual away day at a different course each year. In 2012 we visited Burghley Park in Stamford and in 2011 Kenilworth Golf Club. In 2013 the away day is planned for June.
To find the dates for all the above matches and competitions please go to the Seniors section on the club’s website. Joining the Seniors section costs £3 for the year.
