The following summary indicates the range of enjoyable golfing activities offered by the Seniors Section throughout the year.
You will receive a warm welcome to ‘Roll-up’ sessions on Monday and Thursday mornings, starting at 8.15am, throughout the year . These are friendly but competitive games, usually in fours or threes, followed by refreshments in the Club House Bar. This is an excellent way for new members to meet the seniors crowd.
There are monthly Stableford competitions from March to September. including four ‘major’ trophies: - The Simpson Bowl in June, The P E Daniels and The Lockhart Trophy, both in August and The Lewis Jug. Results in these events are used to adjust handicaps (of course many Seniors also play in the regular qualifying club competitions.)
An annual foursomes, match play knockout trophy, The Ted Stanger Trophy, is played through the summer months. A Winter Series of team events is played, in a variety of different formats. This is an enjoyable yet competitive way to brighten up our winter golfing scene, with prizes for each event and for overall performance throughout the Series. Results in the Winter Series, and in the summer competitions mentioned above, all count towards the award of a newly-created prize, the Lewis Jug, intended to reward the most consistently successful Senior golfer of the year.
We play twenty-four matches against Seniors teams from other clubs, from April to September, . This gives members the opportunity to sample golf courses around (and beyond) the county, each outing costing no more than the price of the post-match lunch. Our fixtures list includes many of the finest courses in our area, and we continue to seek attractive new venues for our team to visit.
An annual ‘Away Day’ visit to a course within reasonable travelling distance is also organised. This includes a breakfast snack on arrival, a round of golf in teams of three or four, finishing the day with a meal and prize-giving.
Mixed golf competitions are played with the ladies section and the senior ladies.
Gentlemen members over 55 years of age who wish to be eligible for senior matches and competitions are invited to pay the seniors subscription of £3.00 before entering the Winter Series1 Comp. at the end of October 2011 . (Members who reach age 55 during the season may enrol on their birthday and participate in events for the rest of the season).
