Men's Welcome

I am honoured to have been confirmed as club captain for 2020 and pleased that Jon Flint has agreed to be vice-captain.  I am looking forward to playing golf with as many members as possible during the year.  One of my aims would be to try to encourage a wider participation of members in club matches, knock out competitions and weekly competitions so please contact me ( if you are unsure about how to get involved. Look out for announcements about men’s club matches which will be circulated early in the year. It would be good to have some more gentleman participating in mixed matches (organised by Carol Smith). The men’s scratch team matches take place on Thursday evenings from April to August (see section ‘Men's inter-club matches’) and the support of club members is always appreciated by our top players.

I am particularly looking forward to a number of important competitions/events in the year. The now well-established Captain/Pro trip is to Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire on 28-29th June. It is already fully subscribed by 44 members but we will add anyone interested and not yet signed up to a reserve list. A captain’s exchange day is planned with Chesterfield GC on 24th September; look out for further details. The Millenium Bowl returns to TLGC on Friday 29th May when we will be competing with teams from Brocton Hall, Kedleston Park, Stratford on Avon and Northamptonshire County for this trophy first contested in 2000.

This year the 36 hole competitions (gentlemen and ladies club championships and the Justin Davies trophy) will all be played on the same day (Sunday 5th July) when we can come together to celebrate the champion golfers in the club.

Finally, the Lady Captain (Jane Jelley) and I have chosen the Carers Centre (Leicestershire and Rutland) as our charity for 2020. The charity appeal will be launched at the Big Lunch following the Captains’ Drive in on Sunday 5th January. One of the main funding raising events is the Charity Golf Day which this year is scheduled for a weekend day on Sunday 6th September. I would encourage members to support this day to raise money for a worthy cause. Put the date in your golfing diary now!

Happy golfing in 2020!
