Welcome to the Seniors Golf Section for 2019-2020!
If you are 55 years or older you are warmly welcome to join and take part in the varied range of activities organised by the Seniors Section.
All through the year, we have ‘roll-up’ sessions on Mondays and Thursdays teeing off at 8.15 am - all played in a friendly, but competitive three or four ball format, optionally followed by refreshments in the clubhouse. These games are an excellent way for new members to meet other Seniors. Tee times may change if there are other competitions or matches taking place.
Each month from October to March we run six Winter Series Competitions, held in a variety of formats, played in pairs or teams of four.
Also, from October to April, we now have Seniors Winter League matchplay events, played during the weekdays; very similar to the Club Winter League played at weekends.
Also, From April to October we hold monthly individual qualifying competitions for handicap updates, including 'major' trophies, for example, the Simpson Bowl and The P E Daniels & Lockhart trophies. During the summer months we play for the Ted Stanger Trophy, a foursomes matchplay knockout competition - the winners go on to represent the Club in a County KO competition. Results from all Winter and Summer competitions (with the exception of the Seniors Winter League) count towards the The Lewis Trophy, which rewards the most consistently successful Senior golfer of the year.
From April to September we also play some 26 matches home and away against teams from clubs in and around Leicestershire, including many of the finest courses in the area. This gives members the opportunity to play a variety of golf courses around the county, each outing costing no more than the price of a post-match meal(around £15-£17). We also have matches against the Ladies section for The Silver Putter and a Texas Scramble.
Every year we have an "Away Day” at a golf club in our region. This is a relaxed, sociable, but still competitive occasion and is one of the highlights of the Seniors year.
The official playing season ends in October with an Annual General Meeting which is preceded by a 9 hole competition and lunch. The year is concluded with an excellent dinner at the clubhouse with partners.
To find the dates for all Seniors activities please go to the Seniors section on the club's website and also please check the Seniors noticeboard in the Locker room. Joining the Seniors section and taking advantage of all the above costs just £5, payable in the Pros shop.
